Special bids subject to bonus points for making either Games or Slams are bold-faced

Games (3 NT, 4 Spades or 4 Heats, or 5 Diamonds or 5 Clubs) are worth 300 points if the pair is not vulnerable, 500 is the pair is vulnerable, in duplicate bridge. (In Rubber bridge, Games do not net separate bonuses, but a 2-1 Rubber victory in Games is worth 500 points, while a 2-0 victory in Games is worth 700 points. The only time a Game is wirth a separate bonus in R7ubber bridge is a Game in an unfinished Rubber, which is worth 300 points.)

Small Slams (6-bids of 12 tricks) earn a bonus of 500 points if the pair was not vulnerable, 750 points if the pair was vulnerable. If you make a Slam, you get the bonus points for the Game added to those of the Slam.

Grand slams (7-bids making all 13 tricks) earn a bonus of 1,000 points if the pair was not vulnerable, 1,500 points if the pair was vulnerable. Again, if you make any kind of Slam, the Game bonus points are added to the score.

Slam bonuses apply to both Rubber and duplicate bridge.

In Rubber bridge, a pair is vulnerable when it has scored the first 100-point “Game” under line and is going for the second “Game” to finish the Rubber.

In duplicate tournament play, vulnerability is determined by rotation and vulnerability is indicated both on the “shoes” in which the hands are distributed as well as on the private score sheets sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). At most modern tournaments these days, score are calculated by hand-held computers that transmit the scores directly to the computer workstation of the Director running the tournament.

The North player always keeps score in tournaments and is responsible for making sure that the right boards are being played in the right round against the right opponents, but the opponents have to designate an “approver” who approved the scores entered into the computer by the North player.

Redoubled down points are double the amounts indicated for doubled contracts.

If a Declarer makes a doubled contract, all points he or she would normally have earned are now doubled. Any overtricks are 100 points each. Plus, he or she gets a 50-point bonus “for the insult.”

If a Declarer makes a redoubled contract, all points he or she would normally have earned are quadrupled. Any overtricks earn 200 points. Plus, he or she gets a 100-point bonus “for the insult.”
