This is an offensive bidding convention designed to force the auction to Game level in an established trump suit (and keep the door open to Slam ) taking advantage of shortness in one of the two partners’ hands with a void or singleton. Example: (with opponents passing throughout; it’s off after interference) North opens 1 Heart; South responds 4 Diamonds. This means South is forcing to at least Game in 4 Hearts and is telling partner he has a void or a singleton in Diamonds, plus an opening hand and four cards in the trump suit (Hearts). If the 1 Heart opener has extra values, he may even want to explore Slam opportunities. Any direct double-jump response in a side suit is regarded as such a “splinter” bid and it is alertable and must be marked on the convention cards of the players using it.
